In the spring of 2019, when I launched Momo Liu Makeup Studio, one of the first questions that came to mind was, “Why start another style blog?” The internet is already saturated with fashion and beauty content, so what could I bring to the table that was fresh and different? The traditional blog format of promoting the latest trends, encouraging impulse purchases, and focusing on what’s “new” or “hot” never really resonated with me. I saw an opportunity to take a different path, one that was more thoughtful, curated, and intentional.
From the outset, I wanted to share an approach to style that focused on quality, comfort, and simplicity. Rather than pushing readers to constantly shop and accumulate more, my goal was to encourage a more conscious way of building a wardrobe—one that is based on timeless pieces that offer both function and form. I also felt there was a gap in the Canadian blogging landscape for someone with discerning taste to provide this kind of perspective. My blog is a reflection of my personal style: minimal, but with attention to detail, and always grounded in comfort.
Do You Accept Free Products or Payment for Features?
Yes, I do accept free products or payments in exchange for featuring certain brands, but I’m very selective about which partnerships I choose to pursue. My primary focus has always been maintaining the authenticity and integrity of Momo Liu Makeup Studio. If a brand’s values align with mine—focusing on quality, sustainability, and a simple aesthetic—I’m open to collaborating. However, I only partner with brands that allow me to give my genuine, unscripted opinion.
It’s important to me that my readers trust the recommendations I make. When I work with a brand, I do so with the understanding that I can tell a unique story about how their product fits into my life in an organic way. I only promote products that I would actually purchase myself, and I believe my readers would find value in. Most collaborations are based on commission, but sometimes I do receive a flat rate fee. Do You Use Photoshop?
Yes, I use Photoshop for my images, but only for minor editing like resizing, exposure adjustments, and color correction. Occasionally, I’ll remove lint or stray dog hair from a shot (if you’re a pet owner, you’ll understand!). However, I never alter my body or facial features in any way—what you see in the photos is exactly what the clothes look like in real life. Authenticity is key, and I want my readers to know that the pieces I showcase are represented as they truly are.
